Mind The Gap: Distinguishing Fitness v. Wellness

Finding Motivation to Workout

From billboards to brochures, there’s no shortage of gimmicks and ploys inundating the weight loss market. Unfortunately (and as every chronic dieter knows), these promises are rarely designed for much more than profit. Instead, they employ strict diets and stringent workouts to promise results that are hardly attainable, let alone sustainable.

The MAX Difference

At The MAX Challenge, we understand how frustrating it can be to struggle, year after year, with weight loss programs that simply do not work. Goals shattered, you slowly lose interest as you watch your wallet grow thinner than your waist.

Fortunately, there is hope.

An innovative blend of fitness, nutrition, and motivation, The MAX is a scientifically-proven program designed for long-lasting results. Because we target the body and mind, participants are delighted to find that their entire perspective has changed, ensuring their success for years to come.
Of course, this shift in mentality takes work, and participants get out of our program what they put in. Through it all, our seasoned professional trainers are dedicated to helping you achieve your goals, eagerly offering everything from fitness tips and nutritional advice to ongoing support and encouragement. Committed to transforming the way you see health, we understand that there’s more to weight loss than just the number on the scale.

Being Fit v. Being Well

Looking good may feel good, but even the best things come in moderation.
Especially in this day and age, too much focus on appearance can have a damaging effect on our mental health. At The MAX, this understanding has driven our commitment to health. Uniquely designed to integrate mind, body, and spirit, our program enables participants to harness not just their physical, but their emotional, strength.

Not surprisingly, this approach often surprises newcomers. Unlike programs that focus solely on the exterior, The MAX incorporates internal motivators to drive success. Empowered by their own innate thirst for change, our goal isn’t just to get participants fit: it is to get them well.

Understanding the Brain/Body Dynamic

A critical source of endorphins, exercise is a key component in mental health. Part of a larger neural network, endorphins are a type of hormone used by your body to regulate equilibrium. ‘’Feel good’’ chemicals, endorphins have a range of physiological effects, not the least of which is their analgesic (pain relieving) capacity.

Equally critically in emotional stability are a host of neurotransmitters, such as serotonin. Linked to higher rates of anxiety, depression, and mood disorders (to name a few), low levels of this chemical are directly related to tryptophan, an essential amino acid which humans get only from food.
Likewise, behavioral catalysts such as motivation, concentration, and energy are dictated in part by dopamine. While it is produced naturally in the brain, your body’s levels of dopamine are greatly impacted by fitness, nutrition, and self-care. In turn, higher levels of this neurotransmitter will improve overall behavioral efficacy (e.g., compliance with a weight loss program).

Finding a Balance

Both a science and an art, the relationship between mind, body, and spirit is the driving force behind health. More than just a number on the scale, it is this balance that truly reflects our wellness.

At The MAX, it is this balance that we aim to achieve. Through our comprehensive program of fitness, nutrition, and motivation, participants experience a whole new outlook on life. A truly transformational change, they are more than fit. They are well.
