For years, I tried different weight loss programs, fads, joining a gym and even doing it by myself. Unfortunately, I always had the same results. I would lose a significant amount of weight and put it right back on. I was your typical yo-yo dieter. At a certain point I really began to believe that it was hopeless. I was no longer living, just existing.
If you had asked me a year ago to look ahead and visualize my future, I never would have imagined how different life would be. When I had first heard about THE MAX Challenge, my first thoughts were, “I’m really out of shape and I can’t even bend.” Although I uttered those words to those around me, I knew it was time. This was my opportunity to change my life for the better and become the person I always wanted to be.
In September of 2011, I attended my first MAX kickoff meeting and met Bryan Klein. When he spoke about the program and leading a healthy life, it was with honesty and sincerity. While sitting there listening to him speak, I knew I had made the right decision. He assured each person in that room that the program was specifically designed for all fitness levels. He even followed his presentation by saying, “don’t look so nervous.” Of course I was! My fitness level was non-existent.
On September 12th of 2011 I began my first MAX class. It was one of the hardest things that I have ever done. There were those around me, outside of the program, who told me not to go back. I wouldn’t listen. In my mind, I had made the commitment. Was it easy? No. I was not able to do a jumping jack, a sit-up, a lunge or even bounce up and down. When you’re as big as I was, every little movement is difficult. I would literally cringe inside when Bryan would say we should have a seat on the floor. Just to get up and down was almost impossible. My body was literally in shock for the first two weeks. However, each day it became a little easier. Week by week I became stronger and stronger.
Each day my instructors and coaches motivated, encouraged and believed in me. I could not have achieved this incredible level of success without the support of all the supportive people in THE MAX. They became my family and are people are responsible saving my life.
I am often asked, “How did you do it?” Honestly, when I made the decision to enroll in the program, my mind was set. I visualized my success from the very beginning. I visualized where I would be in one year and basically have never looked back. If it were not for Bryan and those with whom I was surrounded each and every day of that first challenge (many who are now instructors and owners), I could not have done it. Each and every person believed in me, supported me and wanted me to succeed. As for myself, I wanted to see how far I could push my body to transform from one extreme to the other. From literally having limited mobility, which included not being able to walk up and down a flight of stairs properly, to moving with ease and flexibility. It was never just about the number on the scale for me. Instead, it was about creating a better life, a real life. Now, it’s almost one year later and I feel better than I ever have. I’m in the best shape of my life and am now an instructor. It’s amazing how good life can be when you decide to make the right changes.
I finally found something that I love doing and it feels great!

I tried to lose weight many times in my life. I hadn’t spiraled out of control but also never really felt comfortable in my own skin. It was easy to walk around that way because truthfully, at 5’6” and 215 pounds, I looked like everyone else… I didn’t even realize that I was settling for less than my full potential.

In September of 2011, Bryan Klein introduced the first of THE MAX Challenge 10-week transformation programs and I realized this could be exactly what I needed to transform from just okay to absolutely great. I knew that I could do anything for 10 weeks, so I decided to give it a chance. As my first 10-week session progressed, my health improved and I quickly began to feel an increase in energy. I began to realize how much I was really missing out on in life and realized that this was more about a lifestyle than just 10 weeks.
When I see old friends now they can’t believe how much I have changed. The first thing that they notice is obviously the 50-plus pounds that I lost. In fact, many of them tell me that I look better than I did in high school! I love those compliments, but inside I realize that the most valuable thing is not what I lost; it’s what I gained: energy, enthusiasm, health and perhaps even years on my life. My advice, take the first step…. It’s only ten weeks.

The MAX has taught me that leading a healthy lifestyle and achieving my goals can definitely be accomplished even with my busy lifestyle as a wife and mom of 3.
The classes are exciting and fun, the motivation is incredible and my “impossible” has turned into “I’m possible”! The MAX has been the best decision I could have made for me and my family.
For as long as I could remember I have always struggled with my weight.
I was always considered to be a “Big Kid”. I had worked out through High School and on and off through the years, but never changed much. Over the last 15 or so years I have gained an excess of 70 pounds. Constantly trying to loss 20 then gaining it back and then some, this process clearly did not work. I guess you could categorize me as a Yo-Yo dieter. As my weight gain continued my health slowly diminished I went from boarder line high cholesterol and Triglycerides to being prescribed 3 medication to combat those ailments. Before joining MAX Fitness my doctor told me if I continued I was heading towards Diabetes. It was at that point I decided I really needed to do something about my health.

I first decided to change my life style. No more burgers and beer or pizza and wings. My thought was if I gave up a few things at a time I would slowly start the weight loss process. This again worked to a point. After losing a few pounds and being frustrated with the results I needed something new. In walks JP Bartolmeo, a lifelong friend of mine. I received a call from him basically explaining MAX and how I “needed to do it” or else I was going to live a short life. JP doesn’t pull many punches he tells you what’s on his mind, and for that I thank him and consider him one of my closest friends.
So here starts my MAX journey 42 years old, 6 foot 2, 275 pounds, and in the worst shape of my life. I inquire via email and soon receive a call from Jeff Jordan. Jeff explains to me how the program works and all I have to do is “show up” and they will do the rest. I have to admit after hanging up the phone I said to my wife this guy is out of his mind. Yeah right he is going to change me!!! I show up to day one, not very happy and one of the first things we do is take my before picture, I was thrilled (see photo) I know this guy 30 minutes and he wants my photo. From that minute forward I knew I was on to something. Jeff told me” wow your going to do great in this program you will not be disappointed”. That sent me back a step, here I am standing there an overweight, unhealthy man and Jeff is telling I how good I am going to do. The rest is history I am now down 45 pounds look and feel amazing, I clearly am in the best shape I’ve been in for 20 years. By the way I am now off of two of my medication and my doctor is using as an example to others.
Here we are today 22 weeks into my MAX journey and I am not only a part of the plan I am part of the family. Thru Jeff, JP and Bryan’s excellent advice and guidance I am excited to be starting the next part of this journey I will be starting as a MAX instructor for the next fitness challenge. There is no way in a million years if you asked me 5 months ago if I was going to instruct a fitness class I would have agreed. I am very excited to see how this continues.
So I have to thank a few people for all their help. Bryan Klein thank you for starting such an incredible fitness program. Jeffery Jordan for having the drive and confidence in me and pushing each and every day, even when I didn’t feel up to it. I am happy to call you my friend. JP Bartolomeo for being a true friend and worrying about my health I can’t thank you enough. All of the new friends I have made thru this process thanks for the motivation. Most importantly my wife Rose and our 2 beautiful children Alexa and Haley. Without your constant support I wouldn’t be who I am today. Thank you and I love you all more each day.
